Knicks fall to Bobcats in battle of the basement

Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) – Jumaine Jones had 28 points and seven
rebounds in a matchup of the two worst teams in the NBA as the Charlotte
Bobcats beat the New York Knicks, 116-109, at the Charlotte Bobcats Arena.

Raymond Felton added 20 points, six boards and six assists and Primoz Brezec
scored 18 points for the Bobcats, who have won three of their last five
contests.

Jalen Rose netted 23 and Eddy Curry scored 19 points for the Knicks, who had a
two-game winning streak snapped. Stephon Marbury had 18 points and seven
assists.

Marbury’s driving layup narrowed the gap to 77-73, but the Bobcats used a 12-2
tear, capped by Melvin Ely’s turnaround jumper, to push the score to 89-75.

Charlotte held a 95-82 advantage heading into the final frame.

Trailing 108-95, the Knicks fought their way back into the game with a 12-1
run, including four points from Rose, to get within two, 109-107, with 1:13 to
play. The Bobcats went just over three minutes without a field goal to help
fuel the run.

Brevin Knight drained a jumper to make the score 111-107 with 52 seconds on
the clock, and Charlotte put the game away by sinking 5-of-8 at the line in
the final minute.

Rose’s jumper cut the deficit to 15-12 in the first quarter, but the Bobcats
responded with a 12-4 run, capped by Jones’ basket, to extend the lead to
27-16. Charlotte led 33-25 after 12 minutes of play.

After the Bobcats scored the first four points of the second quarter the
Knicks reeled off an 8-2 spurt, highlighted by Curry’s three-point play, to
pull New York within 39-33.

Brezec’s jump shot pushed the lead to 47-39, but the Knicks went on a 10-1
streak, including four points from Marbury and three from David Lee, to move
New York in front 49-48. Charlotte took a 60-58 edge into the locker room.

Game Notes

Charlotte’s Gerald Wallace contributed 16 points and 12 rebounds in the
win…The Bobcats won their 18th game of the season, matching their total from
last year (18-64)..Charlotte won back-to-back games for the fifth time this
season…Jones has 57 points in his last two games and has a three-pointer in
26 straight games (3rd longest active streak)…Bobcats guard Kareem Rush
missed the game with a stomach virus…New York is 2-13 in its last 15 road
games.
