Wade leads Heat to win over LeBron
Miami, FL (Sports Network) – Dwyane Wade had 35 points, nine rebounds and
seven assists to help the Miami Heat record a 98-92 come-from-behind win over
the Cleveland Cavaliers at AmericanAirlines Arena.
Shaquille O’Neal added 18 points and eight boards for the Heat, who won for
the 11th time in 12 games. Alonzo Mourning registered 16 points and eight
rebounds for Miami, which rallied in the fourth quarter to take the lead for
the first time in the game.
LeBron James had 47 points and seven boards to lead the Cavs, who faltered
down the stretch to fall for the second straight time.
Down 72-65 after three quarters, the Heat opened the fourth with a 10-2 run to
take their first lead of the game. Gary Payton’s three-pointer ended the
surge, which saw Wade and Walker combine for seven points.
Cleveland quickly regained the lead on its next trip down the floor when James
converted a basket, but it wasn’t long before the Heat gained control.
Miami used a 9-0 run to turn a 77-75 deficit into an 84-77 cushion. Mourning
scored the first six points of the run, which was ended by a Wade free throw
with just over 4 1/2 minutes remaining.
An Antoine Walker three-pointer less than a minute later extended the Heat to
their largest lead 87-78.
Cleveland got within 92-90 with less than a minute to play, but Walker drained
another three to increase the lead to five and the Heat won going away.
Walker ended with 14 points off the bench, as the Miami reserves outscored
“All of us needed to contribute in order for us to get that win,” said
Mourning. “Some nights are going to be like that.”
Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 21 points and six boards for Cleveland, which has
dropped seven straight in Miami.
“In the fourth quarter they got some easy lay ups and that got the crowd
involved,” said Ilgauskas. “We struggled. Maybe we took too many jump shots.”
The Cavs jumped out to a 21-9 lead in the first quarter and cruised into the
second with a 27-20 advantage.
Cleveland turned it on in the second and grabbed its largest lead, 50-35,
after an Ilgauskas bucket with 2:43 remaining. The Heat rallied to end the
half and went into the locker room down just 51-46.
The Heat managed to keep it close throughout the third, but still never
grabbed the lead and went into the fourth down 72-65.
Cleveland fell to 1-2 on a four-game road trip…This was James’ second 40-
plus point game against the Heat this season…Wade has 28 30-plus point games
this season…O’Neal and Mourning were on the floor at the same time for the
first time this season.
