Pachulia’s putback lifts Hawks over Magic

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) – Zaza Pachulia scored with just two seconds
remaining in overtime as Atlanta edged Orlando in overtime, 108-107 at Philips
Arena.

Pachulia, who was originally a second pick of Orlando in 2003, finished with
13 points and a career-high 18 rebounds for the Hawks, who snapped a four
game losing streak.

“My first game-winner in my career,” said Pachulia. “It felt good, especially
against my old team.”

Joe Johnson led all scorers, netting 40 points while dishing out 11 assists.
Al Harrington added 24 points and seven boards.

Jameer Nelson led Orlando with 18 points. Hedo Turkoglu tallied 16 for the
Magic, who saw their modest two game winning streak come to an end. Dwight
Howard scored 13 points and grabbed 15 boards.

Trailing by four, 96-92, late in the fourth quarter, Nelson nailed a jumper to
bring the Magic within two with 1:05 left to play.

After a Johnson miss, Turkoglu dropped in a jumper to bring the score even,
96-96, with just 23 seconds remaining.

Harrington then missed a jump shot at the buzzer, and the game went into
overtime.

After back-to-back jumpers from Johnson, the Magic, led by the combination of
Nelson and Howard, scored the next nine points to give Orlando a 105-100 lead
with 1:24 left to play.

Josh Smith answered with a trey to bring Atlanta within two with just 47
seconds left.

After two Howard free throws, Johnson dropped in a three pointer of his own to
bring the Hawks within one, 107-106, with 34 seconds left.

On Orlando’s next possession, Turkoglu was called for an offensive foul,
giving Atlanta the ball with 12 seconds remaining.

Johnson drove to the basket and missed a layup, but Pachulia put in the miss
to give Atlanta a one point lead with two seconds left.

“[Pachulia] had 18 rebounds, 12 on the offensive boards,” said Orlando coach
Brian Hill. “Our biggest concern coming into the game was offensive
rebounding.”

Orlando had one last chance to win the game, but Nelson’s 16 footer fell short
as time expired.

After a mostly even first quarter, Darko Milic ended the period with two
jumpers, his only points of the game, and Orlando led Atlanta, 32-28.

Trailing by ten in the second quarter, Johnson and Harrington led a 18-4
Atlanta run that gave them a four point lead, 52-48, with 2:41 left to play.
Except for a Smith layup, Johnson and Harrington scored every point for
the Hawks, including back-to-back treys to cap the run.

Turkoglu and Carlos Arroyo each connected on two free throws for the Magic and
the score was tied at the break, 58-58.

After Orlando took a four point lead late in the third the Hawks scored the
last eight points of the quarter to take a four point lead into the fourth,
78-74.
