Gasol, James capture NBA weekly honors

New York, NY (Sports Network) – Cleveland’s LeBron James and
Memphis’ Pau Gasol were named the NBA’s Eastern and Western
Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for the week ending March 26.

James averaged 36.3 points, 8.3 assists and 8.0 rebounds to guide his team to
a perfect 3-0 record last week. He tallied his fifth triple-double of the
season against Charlotte on March 22 with 37 points, 11 boards and 12 assists,
and sprang for 36 points against both Boston on March 24 and Houston on March

Not only did James post a triple-double against Charlotte, but also hit the
game-winning shot with less than a second to play in a 120-118 victory.

Gasol, meanwhile, averaged a double-double of 26.8 points and 10.8 rebounds
last week to help his team to a 4-0 mark. He shot over 60 percent in that
stretch, including a 9-of-15 performance (23 points) on March 21 versus
Indiana en route to a 105-75 Memphis win.

Gasol also surpassed Shareef Abdur-Rahim as the Grizzlies’ all-time leading
rebounder after gathering eight boards against New York on March 24.

Other Player of the Week nominees were Denver’s Carmelo Anthony, Dallas’ Dirk
Nowitzki, the Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant, New Jersey’s Vince Carter and
Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic.
