Allen leads SuperSonics’ comeback over Suns
Seattle, WA (Sports Network) – Ray Allen scored 30 points, which included the
game-winning three-pointer with 24 seconds remaining, as Seattle came from
behind to down Phoenix, 116-114, at Key Arena.
With under 30 seconds to play in the fourth, Earl Watson drove the lane before
passing out to Allen, who was all alone in the left corner and the star guard
nailed his attempt to seal the win for the SuperSonics.
Chris Wilcox added 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting with 12 rebounds for Seattle,
which won a season-best fourth straight game. Rashard Lewis donated 21 points
in the win.
Raja Bell paced Phoenix with 23 points while Shawn Marion and Boris Diaw each
netted 22 points in the Suns’ third loss in their last four games. Diaw also
grabbed 12 rebounds.
Phoenix, though, still claimed its second straight Pacific Division title due
to the Clippers loss to the Lakers on Sunday. It was the first time in team
history the franchise has captured the division crown in consecutive seasons.
A Steve Nash jump shot gave the Suns a 111-107 lead with 4:37 left to play,
but Allen cut it to a two-point game with a layup 20 seconds later. Allen then
tied the contest with a jumper, but Bell answered with a three-pointer for the
Suns to make it 114-111 with a little over three minutes left to play.
Allen stayed hot with a jumper for a one-point disadvantage with 2:39 to go
and after both teams failed to hit a shot over the next two minutes, Allen
converted his winning three attempt.
The Suns had a few looks at the other end, but Nash missed on a long
jumper before Marion got a rebound and kicked it back out to Nash. The guard
then drove the lane and dished out to Diaw, who tried to penetrate
along the right baseline. However, his attempt fell short as well and the ball
went out of bounds with just one-tenth of a second left.
Nash was held to just 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting but did hand out 11
assists as Phoenix led 31-28 after the first, but trailed by one at 57-56
heading into halftime.
The Suns led 91-89 heading into the fourth.
