Bryant, Gordon named NBA players of the week

New York, NY (Sports Network) – Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers and the
Chicago Bulls’ Ben Gordon were named the NBA’s top players for the week ending
April 16.

Bryant averaged a league-high 41.3 points, with 6.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and
3.33 steals per game, as the Lakers went 3-0 to clinch a playoff berth. On
April 14, Bryant scored 50 points in a 110-99 win over Portland to surpass
Elgin Baylor’s single-season franchise scoring record of 2,719 points
established during the 1962-63 campaign.

Gordon averaged 26.3 points, shooting 60 percent from three-point range, to
lead Chicago to a 4-0 record and a playoff berth. In a 103-101 victory over
Washington on April 14, Gordon tied the NBA’s all-time record for three-point
field goals made in a single game without a miss, going 9-of-9 from beyond the

Other nominees for the awards were Philadelphia’s Allen Iverson, Orlando’s
Dwight Howard, Sacramento’s Mike Bibby and Utah’s Carlos Boozer.
