Status uncertain for Cavs’ Hughes after death of brother

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) – The death of Larry Hughes’ younger brother,
Justin Hughes, on Thursday has put the status of the Cleveland Cavaliers guard
up in the air for the third game of the Eastern Conference semifinal series
with Detroit on Saturday.

Justin Hughes was born with a heart defect.

“Life sometimes helps put the proper perspective on basketball, and this is
one of those occasions,” said Cleveland general manager Danny Ferry in a
statement Thursday. “Now is a time for Larry to be with his family as they
deal with the loss of Justin. The timetable for Larry’s return to the
Cavaliers has not been determined.”

The Cavaliers lost the first two games of the best-of-seven series in Detroit.

Larry Hughes is Cleveland’s second-leading scorer in the playoffs, averaging
11.3 points and 3.9 assists in eight games.
