Mavs, Spurs meet for Game 3 of West semis

(Sports Network) – The Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs are knotted at
1-1 in their Western Conference semifinals set and will play Game 3 tonight at
American Airlines Center.

Game 4 of this best-of-seven set is scheduled to be played on Monday at
American Airlines Center.

After falling 87-85 in Game 1, Dallas got a huge win in the second game of the
series. On Tuesday, Josh Howard scored 27 points and Dirk Nowitzki netted 21
as the fourth-seeded Mavericks crushed the top-seeded Spurs, 113-91, at the
AT&T Center.

Howard and Nowitzki both pulled down nine rebounds, and Devin Harris finished
with 20 points to help the Mavericks surge to a commanding victory after a
tough loss on Sunday in the opener.

Jerry Stackhouse tallied 19 points in Game 2’s victory for Dallas, which
opened a 20-point halftime cushion and cruised in the second half. The
Mavericks had just six turnovers on Tuesday, compared to 13 in Game 1.

Tim Duncan ended with 28 points and nine rebounds for the defending NBA
champions, while Tony Parker contributed 15 points and Manu Ginobili netted 13
in the loss for the Spurs. Duncan also blocked four shots and was 8-for-10
from the floor.

The Mavericks have won four of their last six Game 3s in the postseason,
while San Antonio has lost two straight Game 3s.

The Spurs knocked off the Detroit Pistons in seven games in last year’s
NBA Finals and have won the NBA title in two of three and three of the last
seven years (1999, 2003, 2005).

San Antonio has reached at least the conference semifinals five straight
years. The Spurs defeated Dallas in five in the 2001 semis, lost to the
Lakers in five in 2002, beat the Lakers in six in the second round of the
2003 playoffs, fell to the Lakers in six in 2004 and beat Seattle in six
contests in last year’s semifinals.

The Mavericks, who knocked out Houston in seven games during last year’s
first round, were eliminated in six games in the 2005 Western Conference
semifinals by the Phoenix Suns. They have advanced to the conference finals
just twice in franchise history (1988, 2003) and have never been to the NBA
Finals.

Dallas has reached at least the conference semifinals for the fifth time in
the last six years. The Mavericks were ousted by Sacramento in the first round
of the 2004 playoffs during that span

This is the third time that these teams have met in the postseason. San
Antonio knocked out the Mavericks in the 2001 semis and defeated Dallas in six
games in the 2003 conference finals.
