Nuggets reportedly lock up Nene
Denver, CO (Sports Network) – Just one day after committing a reported $80
million to forward Carmelo Anthony, Denver continued to loosen the purse
strings by reportedly agreeing on a six-year, $60 million deal with power
forward Nene on Sunday.
According to the Denver Post, the 23-year-old Brazilian agreed to the terms of
the deal, which can’t be signed until July 12, just one day after he got
The 6-foot-11, 260-pound Nene has averaged 10.7 points and 6.2 rebounds in his
four-year career. Taken seventh overall in the 2002 NBA Draft by New York,
Nene was acquired by Denver in a draft-day deal that sent Marcus Camby among
others to the Big Apple.
He played just three minutes last season before blowing out his right knee on
opening night against San Antonio. He is still recovering from surgery and
isn’t expected to resume full activities for another two months.
