Ariza re-signs with Orlando
Orlando, FL (Sports Network) – The Orlando Magic have re-signed free agent
forward Trevor Ariza to an undisclosed contract.
Ariza averaged 4.6 points and 3.8 rebounds in 57 games with the Magic and New
York Knicks last season. He was traded to Orlando on February 22 in a deal
that sent Steve Francis to New York.
In 21 games with the Magic, Ariza averaged 4.7 points and 3.9 rebounds.
“We are very pleased to bring Trevor back, as he is a key part of our young
core,” said Magic general manager Otis Smith. “His athleticism and
explosiveness will be a great asset to our team on both ends of the floor.”
Ariza was key at the defensive end for the Knicks and Magic last season,
recording at least one steal in 33 games.
“He has the ability to be a shutdown-type defender and will add to the
versatility of our team,” added Magic head coach Brian Hill.
The Knicks selected Ariza with the 43rd overall pick of the 2002 NBA Draft. He
has appeared in 137 career games, averaging 5.3 points and 3.4 rebounds.
