Nuggets acquire Smith from Milwaukee

Denver, CO (Sports Network) – The Denver Nuggets added beef to their
frontcourt Thursday, acquiring forward Joe Smith from the Milwaukee Bucks in
exchange for forward Ruben Patterson.

“We are excited to be able to add a solid veteran like Joe to our frontcourt,”
said Denver director of player personnel Mark Warkentien. “We believe his
addition gives us one of the deepest frontlines in the NBA.”

The 6-foot-10 Smith has been around the league, playing in 751 career games
with Golden State, Philadelphia, Minnesota, Detroit and Milwaukee. The veteran
averaged 8.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game for the Bucks last season, and
has compiled 12.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest throughout his career.

The volatile Patterson came to Denver from Portland in a four-team blockbuster
trade on February 23. He donated 13.2 points and pulled down 3.5 rebounds per
game in 26 contests with the Nuggets and averaged 12.1 points and 3.4 rebounds
in 71 games on the season.
