Nowitzki, Mavericks top Trail Blazers

Portland, OR (Sports Network) – Dirk Nowitzki had 26 points and 10 rebounds to
lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 103-96 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers
at the Rose Garden.

Jason Terry had 24 points and Jerry Stackhouse added 16 points and nine
assists for the Mavericks, who have won their last two games after starting
the season with four consecutive losses.

Jarrett Jack had 20 points and 10 assists for his first career double-double
and Zach Randolph added 20 points and nine rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who
had a two-game winning streak stopped.

The Mavericks used a 10-0 run in the first period as the Trail Blazers failed
to make a basket for almost six minutes. Dallas led, 24-13, going into the
second quarter.

Portland got back into the game in the second quarter. A 13-2 run was capped
off on a reverse layup by Martell Webster to make it a 36-35 game with 3:33
left until the half.

Dallas, though, took a 44-41 lead heading into the third quarter.

Portland briefly grabbed the lead when Webster hit a three-pointer to make it
46-44 less than a minute into the third. However, Dallas ripped off a huge
19-5 run with Nowitzki scoring the last five points, including a trey that
gave Dallas a 63-51 advantage with under six minutes left in the third.

The Mavericks took a 77-64 lead into the fourth.

Portland chipped away at the Dallas lead and got to within 86-83 thanks to a
turnaround jumper by Randolph with under three minutes to play.

With the score 86-85, Terry was fouled as he put in a layup and made the free
throw for an 89-85 advantage. After Juan Dixon missed a jumper on the other
end, Stackhouse put in a layup for a 91-85 lead with 1:36 to play and the Mavs
held on for the victory.
