Wizards’ Hayes carted off court with back injury

Washington, DC (Sports Network) – Washington Wizards guard Jarvis Hayes
suffered a back injury that required him to be carted off of the court on a
stretcher late in the fourth quarter of Washington’s 111-99 win over the
Cleveland Cavaliers Saturday night.

Hayes sustained a back contusion and hit his head, according to a Wizards team
release. He was taken to Sibley Memorial Hospital for precautionary testing.

Hayes landed hard on his lower back underneath the basket after attempting to
block a lay-up by Cleveland’s Shannon Brown. A long stoppage of play
followed in which Hayes was immobilized on a backboard and carted off on a
stretcher.

“He hit me kind of hard, but I didn’t think he was going to fall,” said Brown.
“That’s real… bad when you got to get carried off by a stretcher. I hope
he’s okay.”

The fourth-year guard is averaging 6.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game this
season.
