Duncan and Spurs crush Heat
San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) – Tim Duncan scored 19 points and Tony
Parker and Manu Ginobili each contributed 17 as the San Antonio Spurs routed
the Miami Heat, 106-86, at the AT&T center.
Duncan was 9-of-17 from the floor and grabbed six rebounds while Parker had
five boards and four assists.
Brent Barry added 15 points off the bench and Beno Udrih had 13 for the Spurs,
who have won four in a row.
San Antonio shot 49 percent (41-of-83) from the field.
Dwayne Wade poured in 18 points on just 7-of-17 shooting with six helpers and
Earl Barron posted 15 points off the bench for the Heat, who have dropped five
of their last six contests.
Alonzo Mourning added 10 points as Miami lost its ninth straight in San
The Spurs opened up a 10-3 spurt, capped by a Parker jumper early in the
contest. San Antonio held its lead until Jason Kapono’s layup put Miami up
18-17 with 1:17 to play. Michael Finley, though, nailed a fade away jumper in
the final minute for the one-point edge.
In the second frame, Gary Payton drained a jump shot to cut the Heat’s deficit
to four, 25-21 with 8:37 remaining, but the Spurs went on a 20-6 burst and
essentially took over the game from there.
Following a Wade technical, Barry converted on all three free throws before
Parker finished the run with a jumper. San Antonio outscored Miami, 38-20 in
the quarter and led 57-38 at the half.
The Heat couldn’t get anything going in the second half and were never a
serious threat. Duncan’s bank shot opened up a 21-point advantage early in the
third as the Spurs led by as many as 26 midway through the fourth quarter.
Miami finished 45 percent shooting…San Antonio was 9-for-20 from three-point
range…Miami hosts Orlando on Friday while San Antonio hosts
Dallas…Attendance was 18,797.
