Brand nets 33 to lead Clippers past Heat

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) – Elton Brand tied his season-high with 33
points as the Los Angeles Clippers knocked off the Miami Heat, 101-97, at
Staples Center.

“The guys are putting me in position to score. It’s time for this team to get
some wins. We shared the ball well tonight,” said Brand.

Cuttino Mobley added 21 points and Shaun Livingston donated 11 points for the
Clippers, who have won three of four overall. Los Angeles has also won five of
six against the Heat.

Dwyane Wade led Miami with 33 points while Alonzo Mourning recorded a double-
double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Udonis Haslem also added a double-
double with 12 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.

Miami’s loss stemmed from poor perimeter shooting. The Heat started 1-of-18
from beyond the arc, finishing 3-of-25 on the night from long distance.

“We were fighting from behind mostly in the second half. We were just one play
short. We couldn’t shoot the ball at all from the outside,” said Miami head
coach Pat Riley.

The Clippers held a 92-84 with under three minutes left in the fourth, but
Miami didn’t go away. The Heat tallied seven straight points, capped by two
Wade free throws, to pull within 92-91 with 1:21 to play.

After Brand drained a jumper, Wade was denied by Livingston when attacking the
rim and Brand made a pair of free throws with 40 ticks remaining to ice the
contest.

Miami held a 25-22 lead after one period, but trailed 45-44 at the half.

The Clippers seized control in the third stanza, reeling off 13 consecutive
points to take a 58-48 lead. Mobley made four straight free throws and buried
a jumper before Livingston made a short jumper. Mobley finished what he
started, draining a three with 7:48 left.

Los Angeles led 72-65 after three periods.
