Kobe is just doing his thing
(Sports Network) – Superstar Kobe Bryant is once again have an excellent
season for the Los Angeles Lakers, who are 16-8 and trail the division-leading
Phoenix Suns by 1 1/2 games in the Pacific.
Bryant has scored more than 30 points in three straight games and is averaging
43.7 points per game in that span. He leads the Lakers in scoring (28.7 ppg)
and has scored more than 20 points in 16 of the 21 games he has played in.
The 28-year-old Bryant, who is averaging 5.3 rebounds and a team-best 5.0
assists per contest, has registered double-digits in all 21 games he has
appeared in and has collected four double-doubles. He has also logged more
than 30 minutes in 20 contests.
The Lakers begin a six-game road trip when they visit the streaking Chicago
Bulls on Tuesday at the United Center. It is the second and final meeting of
the season between the clubs. On November 19th, Lamar Odom scored 23 points
and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Lakers to an 82-72 victory over the
Bulls at the Staples Center.
Los Angeles, which has won two in a row in this series, have won two of its
last three at Chicago.
Odom is currently sidelined with a sprained right MCL. He is averaging 17.5
points, a team-high 8.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 21 games. The Rhode Island
product was injured on December 12th at Houston and is expected to miss at
least one month of action.
LA attempts to get back on the winning track against the Bulls. On Sunday,
Gilbert Arenas scorched the Lakers for 60 points, a franchise-record, and
scored 16 of Washington’s 21 points in overtime as the Wizards outlasted Los
Angeles, 147-141, at the Staples Center.
Bryant finished with 45 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists in the loss to
Washington for the Lakers. Vladimir Radmanovic scored 27 for LA, while Luke
Walton netted 15 and pulled down 11 rebounds.
The Lakers are 3-4 on the road this season. They will also visit Minnesota,
New Jersey, Miami, Orlando and Charlotte on the current road trip. LA has
dropped four of its last six as the visitor.
LA is 11-5 when it scores more than 100 points this season. The Lakers are 6-7
when their opponent reaches the century mark.
