Nowitzki big as Mavs down Sonics

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) – Dirk Nowitzki posted 31 points and a season-
high 15 rebounds, as the red-hot Dallas Mavericks made it 11 straight wins
with a 112-88 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics at American Airlines

The Mavericks have held each of their last 10 opponents to fewer than 100

Josh Howard notched 21 points and nine boards for Dallas, which won 12 in a
row earlier this season from November 9 to December 1. Jason Terry posted 18
points and eight rebounds, while Devin Harris had 16 points.

Ray Allen netted 27 points for the SuperSonics, who have dropped three of
four. Earl Watson scored 15 points, Damien Wilkins 11, and Johan Petro added
10 in defeat.

Dallas jumped out to a 16-5 lead capped by a Nowitzki free throw midway
through the first quarter, and led 33-22 heading into the second.

“Tonight we got off to a really good start in the first quarter,” Dallas coach
Avery Johnson said. “We came out firing and the offense was clicking – really
into them defensively.”

Seattle exploded for 33 points in the second and Dallas also scored the
reciprocal first-quarter points production for a 55-55 halftime tie.

However, the Sonics matched their second-quarter total with their entire
second-half output, as Dallas cruised to the easy win. The Mavs opened the
fourth on a 21-5 burst capped by a Terry trey with 5:32 remaining for a 99-77
lead, and never looked back.

“Whatever we had in the first half – the togetherness and the toughness – we
didn’t have that in the second half,” Seattle coach Bob Hill said. “That’s
I’ve talked to them about all year long and I lectured them pretty good before
the game about it and the first half seemed like they bought it, like they
finally understand.”

Outrebounding Seattle by 28 boards, Dallas grabbed both season highs in
rebounds (58) and offensive rebounds (21).
