Arenas, K.G. awarded NBA weekly honors
New York, NY (Sports Network) – Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas
and Kevin Garnett of the Minnesota Timberwolves were named the Eastern and
Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for the week ending
Arenas averaged 33.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 2.7 steals while
leading the Wizards to a 2-1 record. He drained the game-winning trey as time
expired in a 108-105 win over Milwaukee, and added 11 boards, eight assists
and four steals.
Garnett netted 27.5 points, pulled down 14.5 boards and dished out five
assists as the Timberwolves won all four games during the week. He rang in the
New Year with a season-high 32 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in a 102-96 win
over Charlotte on January 1.
Other nominees in both conferences included Cleveland’s Drew Gooden,
Houston’s Tracy McGrady, Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki, Detroit’s Richard Hamilton,
New York’s Eddy Curry, Orlando’s Dwight Howard, San Antonio’s Manu Ginobili
and Toronto’s Chris Bosh.
