Butler, Nash awarded NBA weekly honors
New York, NY (Sports Network) – Washington Wizards guard Caron Butler and
Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash were named the Eastern and Western Conference
Players of the Week, respectively, for the week ending January 21.
Butler averaged 23.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.8 steals while
leading the Wizards to a 4-0 week. He had 27 points, including the game-
winning dunk with two seconds left, and 10 assists and five rebounds in
Washington’s 99-98 win over New York on January 17.
Nash, who is receiving the award for the second time this season, averaged
15.5 points, 13.8 assists and 2.3 rebounds while guiding Phoenix to a 4-0
week, extending their winning streak to 13 games. He poured in 21 points,
dished out 14 assists and grabbed four rebounds in the Suns’ 100-91 win at
Houston on January 17. He also notched 15 assists twice – at Memphis on
January 15 and against Portland on January 19.
Other nominees included Cleveland’s LeBron James, Josh Howard of Dallas,
Denver’s Marcus Camby, Richard Hamilton of Detroit, New Jersey’s Jason Kidd,
Shawn Marion and Amare Stoudemire of Phoenix, Seattle’s Nick Collison, Chris
Bosh of Toronto and Utah’s Carlos Boozer.
