Gordon, Bulls down Mavs

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) – Ben Gordon had 30 points, six rebounds and
five assists to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 96-85 win over the Dallas
Mavericks at the United Center.

Luol Deng donated 21 points and grabbed nine boards while Kirk Hinrich added
15 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Bulls, who have won two
straight. P.J. Brown finished with 12 points and nine boards in the win.

Dirk Nowitzki poured in 28 points on 7-of-22 shooting and pulled down 11
rebounds and Jerry Stackhouse netted 16 for the Mavericks, who had an eight-
game winning streak snapped.

The Mavs shot a season-low 31 percent from the floor.

Trailing 67-56, the Mavs opened the final frame with a 14-7 rally, ending with
Josh Howard’s three-point play, to pull within 74-70 with under 6 1/2 minutes

Nowitzki’s three brought Dallas within 79-76 with 4 1/2 minutes to play, but
that was as close as it would get. The Bulls closed the game with a 17-9 run,
including six points from Brown.

The Bulls jumped out to an 11-2 lead, capped by Hinrich’s trey, and were up
27-13 after the opening 12 minutes of play.

The Mavs, who shot 5-of-23 from the field in the first quarter, went nearly 5
1/2 minutes without scoring from the field, as Chicago extended its lead to
23-6 on Deng’s slam.

It was the lowest scoring quarter for Dallas all season, eclipsing the 14
points it scored on December 16 against the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets.

Chris Duhon’s three extended the margin to 42-27, but the Mavericks closed the
stanza with a 14-5 spurt, including eight points from Nowitzki, narrowing the
gap to 47-41.

Nowitzki’s jumper cut the deficit to 53-48, but the Bulls reeled off a 12-4
burst, highlighted by Deng’s steal and dunk, for a 65-51 advantage.
