Josh Howard is shining for the Mavericks
(Sports Network) – Dallas forward Josh Howard is having an All-Star type
season. Howard is averaging 19.4 points and 7.2 rebounds in 37 games for the
defending Western Conference champion Mavericks, who are an impressive 36-9
and own a 4 1/2 game lead over the second place San Antonio Spurs in the
Howard, who is shooting just over 45 percent from the floor and over 83
percent from the foul line, has scored in double-digits in 34 contests and has
collected seven double-doubles this season.
The Seattle SuperSonics try to get back on the winning track when they play
the Mavericks on Tuesday at American Airlines Center. It is the third meeting
of the campaign between the squads. Dallas defeated the SuperSonics in the two
previous contests, winning once at home and on the road. The Mavericks have
won eight in a row in the series. Seattle has lost three straight and eight of
its last nine at Dallas.
The teams will meet one final time this season, as Seattle is scheduled to
host the Mavericks on April 18th at KeyArena.
Dallas wraps up a two-game homestand against the SuperSonics. Dirk Nowitzki
scored 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Mavericks over the
disappointing Sacramento Kings, 106-104, at American Airlines Center.
Jason Terry ended with 18 points and seven assists in the win over Sacramento
for the Mavericks, who have won 13 in a row at home. Jerry Stackhouse ended
with 16 points off the bench, while Devin Harris had 14 points and six assists
The Mavericks are 20-3 at home this season. Their last loss at American
Airlines Center was against the Detroit Pistons on December 7th. Dallas will
visit the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday at the FedExForum. The Mavericks are
2-0 against Memphis this season and will host the Grizzlies on February 7th in
the final meeting of the campaign between the squads.
Nowitzki leads the Mavericks in scoring (25.3 ppg) and rebounding (9.6 rpg).
