Hawks swoop into Charlotte
(Sports Network) – The Atlanta Hawks will wrap up a short two-game road trip
this evening when they pay a visit to the Charlotte Bobcats.
Atlanta has lost four straight and six of its last seven games, including
Monday’s 106-89 setback to the Miami Heat at AmericanAirlines Arena.
Salim Stoudamire scored 22 points, going 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, for the
Hawks, losers of eight straight on the road. Josh Smith ended with 20 points
and Marvin Williams scored 14 in a losing cause.
The Hawks are 12-24 on the road this season and six games off the eighth and
final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. In injury news for Atlanta,
center Zaza Pachulia (illness) is questionable for Wednesday’s game.
Meanwhile, the Bobcats will resume a three-game homestand this evening and
have lost two straight and 12 of their last 16 games.
In Saturday’s 113-107 overtime loss to the New Jersey Nets at Charlotte
Bobcats Arena, Matt Carroll scored a career-high tying 27 points and Walter
Herrmann posted a career-high 20 points and seven rebounds.
Charlotte, decimated by injury, was without Raymond Felton (left quad
contusion), Derek Anderson (knee), Sean May (knee), Gerald Wallace (left hip
contusion) and Emeka Okafor (calf). Wallace and Felton are probable, while
Anderson is questionable and May doubtful for Wednesday’s game. Okafor is
expected to miss more time.
The Bobcats, who are 6 1/2 games off a playoff spot in the East, will close
out the homestand versus Milwaukee on Friday and are 16-19 at home this
Wednesday’s game between Southeast Division rivals is the fourth and final
meeting of the regular season. The Bobcats lead the season series, 2-1, and
have won four of the last five meetings.
Atlanta has lost four of the five encounters at Charlotte, which leads the
all-time series by an 8-3 count.
