Hill out as Magic head coach

Orlando, FL (Sports Network) – After two seasons with the Orlando Magic,
Brian Hill will not return as the team’s head coach.

The team announced on Wednesday that Hill has been relieved of his head
coaching duties, but has the option to stay with the organization in another

“Brian’s contributions to the Orlando Magic have been tremendous,” said
president Bob Vander Weide. “We appreciate everything Brian did for us as head
coach in taking us to this point and hope he decides to stay with the

Hill led the Magic to a 40-42 record and the eighth-seed in the Eastern
Conference playoffs this past season. Orlando was swept in the first round by
the Pistons.

This was Hill’s second stint with the team, having guided a Magic team led by
Shaquille O’Neal and Penny Hardaway to the 1995 NBA Finals. That team was
swept by Hakeem Olajuwon and the Houston Rockets. Hill was fired in 1997 after
a player revolt.

Overall in his career as head coach, which included two-plus seasons with the
Vancouver Grizzlies, he has a 298-315 record.
