Blazers name Miller president
Portland, OR (Sports Network) – The Portland Trail Blazers named Larry
Miller as team president on Wednesday.
Miller spent the last 10 years at Nike, Inc. in Oregon, working most recently
as vice president and general manager of basketball.
“In addition to being firmly rooted in Portland, Larry is a preeminent figure
in the basketball industry and one of the most widely respected sports
professionals in the country,” said Portland chairman and owner Paul Allen.
The Trail Blazers beat unlikely odds in the NBA Draft Lottery and won the top
overall pick in the draft, which takes place on June 28th. Portland is
expected to take either Greg Oden or Kevin Durant.
“I am very honored to join the Trail Blazers family,” said Miller. “I look
forward to working with Paul Allen, Tod Leiweke, Kevin Pritchard and the
excellent people already on staff in helping restore the Trail Blazers as the
pride of Portland and one of the model franchises in sports.”
Portland also announced that executive vice president Mike Golub has been
promoted to chief operating officer. Golub will report to Miller.
