Is Mike Dunleavy’s Job in Danger?

One glance at the body language of Clippers players depicts the state of affairs – eight losses in the past nine games, one home victory in the past 10 tries, and a spot at the bottom of the Pacific Division standings. It has affected the demeanor of the Clippers’ usually jaunty point guard Sam Cassell, who said afterward, ‘We’re 10-21, that doesn’t make it much fun.’

The 38-year old Cassell, who has been the subject of trade rumors, stemming from his expiring contract and vast experience, was asked if the situation had reached the point where he wanted a change of scenery.’It’s not to that point right now,’ Cassell said. The Clippers’ injuries have been a direct cause and effect to the team’s dismal state.

Coach Mike Dunleavy has used 17 lineups, with 11 of those units only starting together once. Twelve individuals have started at least once, with guard Dan Dickau, the lone player on the roster – other than the injured Elton Brand and Shaun Livingston, who has not started. The Clippers were being talked about as one of the NBA’s most surprising teams, when they got off to a 4-0 start.
