Stephon Marbury Angling for a Trade?

Stephon Marbury admitted the obvious yesterday. The Knicks are going in the wrong direction and he’s not sure whether he will still be with them when – or if – they turn their fortunes around. The point guard was among those who believed before the season that the Knicks would compete for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference after they did so for much of last season. With their record at 9-25, that’s not going to happen this season. ‘It’s totally different,’ Marbury said, comparing the past two seasons. ‘We took steps backwards. We didn’t go forward this year. We didn’t build on what we started last year.’

Marbury hasn’t been on the court for much of that backpedaling and he’s unsure how much longer his tenure in his hometown will last. ‘I don’t know,’ said Marbury, whose contract runs through next season. ‘That’s not something that I have to worry about. I know this is a business. I let the chips fall where they’re supposed to. I love playing basketball in New York, but I’m no fool. This is a business. Period.’ Isiah Thomas has said in recent weeks he will lead the Knicks to multiple titles. Marbury isn’t sure if he’ll be part of that. ‘I can’t predict the future,’ said Marbury, who in the past has been adamant
about not wanting to be dealt anywhere. ‘If I get traded, I get traded.’ Click here for more from the New York Post.
