Stephon Marbury for Mike Bibby?
The Knicks never recovered from trading Patrick Ewing one year before his contract expired, and Stephon Marbury believes the club would be wise to not allow history to repeat itself.Just minutes after Isiah Thomas revealed that he doesn’t want to add to the Knicks’ payroll, Marbury said that keeping him on the roster through next season makes financial sense.
Marbury’s contract expires after next season.’If I was the GM, and my contract ended next year, if I’m trying to do salary, I would go off the cap next year. That’s just logic,’ Marbury said before the Knicks won their third straight without their point guard, beating the Nets, 111-105, last night.Marbury is sidelined indefinitely with bone spurs in his surgically repaired left ankle.
There is a possibility that he will opt for season-ending surgery, which could mean he has played his final game with the Knicks. There is a chance that the Knicks could release Marbury anytime between now and the start of the next season. Another plausible scenario is trading Marbury for a player whose contract also expires next summer, such as Sacramento’s Mike Bibby. Click here for more from the New York Daily News.
