Vince Carter for Jermaine O’Neal On or Off?
Yes, the Nets and Pacers discussed a deal involving Jermaine O’Neal and Vince Carter as the principals. But one source familiar with the talks – he called them ‘exploratory’ – insisted it’s a ‘moot point’ at present because O’Neal is injured (out two weeks with a left knee bone bruise) and his salary would send the Nets over the luxury tax threshhold. Multiple sources confirmed the Pacers approached the Nets about a week ago, asking about Carter ($13.3 million).
To make it work, the Nets would need to add Marcus Williams ($1.08 million) and Jamaal Magloire ($4.0 million) to match O’Neal ($19.728 million). That’s the Indy point of view. The Nets prefer want to add Jason Collins ($6.1 million) and the Pacers are not interested. But one source insisted the supplemental parts have not been discussed. There is the possibility the Nets would revisit the landscape when O’Neal is healthy. Team president Rod Thorn declined comment. Click here for more from the New York Post.
