Will the Los Angeles Clippers Let Sam Cassell Go?

If the Clippers trade Sam Cassell, it would be a dark day on the local basketball landscape. A dark, quiet day. Not only would the team lose its point guard but also its most pointed guard. The game had been over for 45 minutes, and he hadn’t played much of the fourth quarter anyway, a quarter staged for no other reason than to satisfy NBA limits.Still, Sam Cassell was aggressively backing down, posting up a man shorter than the Clippers point guard yet more desperate for answers.

Art Thompson III could have had the other two Art Thompsons and tripled-teamed Cassell and still wouldn’t have successfully trapped the truth out of him. As the man charged with covering the Clippers for the Register, Thompson has heard every explanation for losing over the years, but he heard something remarkably different this week…That’s how far this basketball team has sunk. It’s one thing to drain the energy from your fan base, but it’s something else entirely to suck the words out of someone like Cassell, who sometimes could ice his tongue after games.
