Second Time the Charm for Chris Webber and Don Nelson
What’s the first thing coach Don Nelson will say to Chris Webber now that the longtime adversaries are representing the Warriors again? ‘Congratulations,’ Nelson said en route to Houston, where the Warriors play the Rockets tonight. Golden State will make its official announcement today, after Webber cemented the unlikeliest of reunions by signing as a free agent Monday. He is set to begin working out with trainer Mark Grabow today in Oakland and will remain there while his new teammates complete their back-to-back set in Houston and New Orleans.
With Golden State not scheduled to practice again before Friday’s home game against the Bobcats and ex-Warriors guard Jason Richardson – and a five-day break immediately following – Webber’s debut is likely to come during a nationally televised game against Chicago on Feb. 7.Webber, 34, chose to sign with the Warriors over the Lakers and other suitors, though he kept Golden State guessing until Monday. He will receive the prorated veteran’s minimum of $1.2 million, which amounts to a little less than $600,000 for the rest of the season. The Warriors will waive injured guard Troy Hudson to make room for Webber on the roster. Click here for more from the San Francisco Chronicle.
