Damon Stoudamire Acquired by San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs have lost three games in a row, but they scored an off-the-court victory on Wednesday when veteran point guard Damon Stoudamire decided he will sign with the Spurs as soon as he officially clears waivers on Thursday morning. Several other top-tier teams, including the Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets and Toronto Raptors, had expressed interest Stoudamire, who on Monday negotiated a buyout of the remaining two years of his contract with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Stoudamire won’t be eligible to sign with the Spurs until Thursday morning, but his agent, Aaron Goodwin, confirmed that he will sign with the Spurs. He figures to move immediately into the team’s playing rotation because of the injury that has sidelined starting point guard Tony Parker, who underwent an MRI exam in San Antonio on Wednesday. Results of the exam on Parker’s left hell and ankle won’t be known until Thursday. Click here for more from the San Antonio Express News.
