T.J. Ford Returning to a P.G. Battle in Toronto
Raptors point guard T.J. Ford is expected to rejoin the team tonight and take part in a light practice with the squad tomorrow. Ford won’t dress tonight when the Raptors are home to the Los Angeles Lakers at the Air Canada Centre, and coach Sam Mitchell said yesterday he will not rush the diminutive guard back into the lineup until he is absolutely ready, which could be in a week or two.
Ford has spent the past two weeks in Houston, training with former NBAer John Lucas and recovering from an arm and back injury related to a condition he has called spinal stenosis. The club’s starting point guard went down hard in a game on Dec. 11 in Atlanta after being fouled by Al Horford and has been out ever since. In his absence, his backup, Jose Calderon, has played exceptionally well, averaging 15 points and 10.4 assists while shooting 55% from the field during January.
