Kevin Garnett Pushing for a Return too Soon

Even though he is facing an uncertain timetable on his return from a strained abdominal muscle and could be sidelined for additional weeks rather than days, Kevin Garnett said it would not be wise to sit on the Celtics bench during his absence, which reached five games last night. ‘Number one, I don’t have a sports jacket,’ said Garnett, who has been voted as the Celts’ first All-Star Game starter since Larry Bird in 1992. ‘Second, sitting on the bench, knowing there’s only 10 steps to the scorer’s table to check in, wouldn’t be the best thing for me right now.’ Garnett, who strained the abdominal muscle while playing against his former team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, at home on Jan. 25, said the healing process has been slow but steady.
