Ben Wallace’s Time is Up in the Windy City
As truisms go, it is difficult to argue with Ben Wallace’s succinct statement Saturday: ‘I’ll be here till I’m gone.’ Wallace was talking about his stay with the Bulls which, given the two years and more than $36 million remaining on his contract, likely will last at least until the summer.Big money makes for big problems when trying to trade in the NBA. That’s why Wallace will likely still be with the Bulls by the deal deadline next season, as well. Wallace’s contract is just one obstacle general manager John Paxson has as he tries to trade before this season’s deadline of Feb. 21.
Ben Gordon has added injury to what he perceived as the insult of the team’s five-year, $50 million contract he turned down in October. Gordon, who will undergo a second MRI on the sprained right wrist that has kept him out eight games, is also next to impossible to trade even if Paxson thought that was prudent. Particulary, now that other GMs know Gordon’s asking price is much more than $10 million per season. Click here for more from the Chicago Sun Times.
