The Dallas Mavericks are Trying to Get Devean George to ‘Waiver’

Mavericks officials say that a large part of Thursday was spent trying to convince Devean George that it is in his best interest to waive his no-trade clause so that the mega-deal bringing Jason Kidd to Dallas could be executed. George and Mark Bartlestein, his agent, listened but did not budge. George told the Mavericks he likes the team and wants to stay in Dallas. So the Kidd deal went from the cooler to the freezer and Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was left to shrug his shoulders and — get ready for this — quote estranged coach Don Nelson. ‘I learned it from Nellie,’ Cuban said before the Suns-Mavericks game Thursday night. ‘I used to get excited about trades.

I’d say, ‘They want to do this and they want to do that.’ And Nellie always said 99.99 percent of the deals never happen.’ The difference in the Kidd deal was that neither party called it off;  it was George who stopped it.The deal, however, could be revived and there is still a possibility it could happen even if George doesn’t change his mind.
