Brent Barry a Possible Pick Up for Phoenix
The Suns could use some help running the offense when Steve Nash is out and could use another long-range shooter for better spacing on offense. Phoenix will find out Tuesday whether Brent Barry will help. Barry, 36, has told his suitors – Phoenix, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas and Boston – that he will commit to a team then. ‘I’ve spoken with Brent and his agent (Arn Tellem), and we feel we have a shot at getting him,’ Suns General Manager Steve Kerr said. ‘We’ve reached out to him, and he knows what we have to offer.’ Phoenix can offer a healthy rotation role.
The Suns are down to three 3-point threats in Nash, Raja Bell and Leandro Barbosa and lost more spacing by putting Shaquille O’Neal in Shawn Marion’s starting spot. Barry, who is averaging 7.3 points per game this season, has a career 3-point-shooting percentage of 40.7 – 43 percent this season. Barry, a 6-foot-7 swingman, was surprised by San Antonio’s deadline deal to move him to Seattle last week for Kurt Thomas. The Sonics acquired him with the plan to release him last Friday. Barry will clear waivers today and can sign with any team but San Antonio, which must wait 30 days after the trade to do so. Click here for more from the Arizona republic.
