No Comment from Isiah Thomas About Stephon Marbury
Isiah Thomas spent another day dodging questions about Stephon Marbury on Tuesday. More precisely, he spent about 129 seconds dodging the questions before cutting off the interview. Marbury, the Knicks’ former starter at point guard, has not attended a game or spoken to reporters since having ankle surgery Jan. 22. His absence has been a source of curiosity, and there have
been reports that Thomas, the Knicks’ coach, ordered Marbury to stay away.
Marbury did not attend Monday’s game against New Orleans, despite assurances by Thomas that he would be there. At Tuesday’s practice, Thomas again evaded questions about Marbury’s absence. ‘We have our hands full with Chris Paul and LeBron James,’ Thomas said. ‘When you have the opportunity to speak with Steph, you can ask him all the questions that you need to ask him.’
Thomas said he expected Marbury to attend Wednesday’s home game against James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. When another Marbury question was raised, Thomas said: ‘Any questions about LeBron? LeBron James? Going once, going twice.’ Then he turned and left. It was the fifth time in Thomas’s last nine news media sessions that he cut off an interview because of the subject matter — relating either to Marbury or to Thomas’s own future with the team.
