Hard Foul on Kirilenko Costs Dirk Nowitzki One Game
The margin for error is so slim, the race in the Western Conference so tight, that every game is crucial. And every suspension is magnified. The NBA office announced Wednesday that Dirk Nowitzki has been suspended for one game without pay for his flagrant foul on Andrei Kirilenko in the first quarter of the team’s loss to Utah on Monday. That leaves the Mavericks without their leading scorer for tonight’s game against the Houston Rockets, who bring a 16-game winning streak to American Airlines Center. ‘That’s a tough pill to swallow,’ Mavericks general manager Donnie Nelson said. ‘We’ve got to try to find a way to overcome. Guys will have to step up and fill some very big shoes, but we’re capable.’ The Rockets have some big shoes of their own to fill. Center Yao Ming will miss the rest of the season after having surgery on his left foot. Click here for more from the Dallas Morning News.
