Stephon Marbury Wants to Retire with New York Knicks
Marbury hopes to remain with the Knicks for the final year of his contract. Isiah Thomas’ removal from power has increased his chances, but he’s far from out of the woods with Donnie Walsh, who is anxious to meet with Marbury on Thursday to get to know him.
Last summer, Marbury empathically told The Post he wanted to play in Italy after his contract expired, partly to market his Starbury sneakers abroad. But Marbury has changed course, possibly to show more commitment to Walsh. "Commitment" was an ingredient Walsh named as key to evaluating players.
"That’s my goal is to retire a Knick," Marbury said. "I got a lot of basketball left in me to play. I definitely want to explore overseas, but that’s later on, when I’m on the downside of my career. I know I can play another five years at a high level." [NY Post]
