Phil Jackson: Paul Pierce Is No Willis Reed
But not everyone – namely Phil Jackson – was buying it. Jackson dismissed the notion that Pierce, who is believed to have suffered a partially torn meniscus, enjoyed a Willis Reed-like moment in the second half of the Celtics’ 98-88 Game 1 victory Thursday night. Pierce went down midway through the third quarter and was wheeled into the locker room, only to make a dramatic return moments later before leading Boston to a win.
"Paul got carried off and was back on his feet in a minute," Jackson said. "I don’t know if the angels visited him at halftime or in that timeout period that he had or not, but he didn’t even limp when he came back out on the floor. I don’t know what was going on there. Was (evangelist) Oral Roberts back there in their locker room?" [NY Daily News]
