Jermaine O’Neal: Sitting out Games Last Year Was a ‘Career Move’

"When I sat out all those games last year, it was a career move," O’Neal told the Associated Press. "I knew what the situation was. I knew what the significance of me staying away from the game, rehabbing the leg and getting the knee back to its normal usage was."

The significance was that he gets to a new team refreshed, and with something to prove. In pulling off the deal and absorbing O’Neal’s significant salary ($21 million this coming season, $23 million in 2009-10), the Raptors hope he is motivated and healthy enough to give them a potent frontcourt punch alongside Chris Bosh.

"I think playing alongside Chris Bosh gives us a different dynamic," O’Neal told the AP.
