Dwight Howard: We Were Treated Like Beatles in China
Though Howard wasn’t a first-time tourist in China, he said he was taken aback by the Chinese affinity for the NBA and its top stars.
"They treated us like the Beatles over there," he said. "It was ridiculous. Everywhere you went was just a crowd of people. And the people there are so great. They’re disciplined, they work really hard and they love taking pictures. Everybody’s got a camera, so all they did was take a lot of pictures."
In part because of the local frenzy, the USA basketball teams didn’t stay in the main Olympic village. But that seclusion also had an unexpected effect on Howard and his "Redeem Team" teammates.
