Allen Iverson Wants to Play Until He’s 39
Yesterday, Iverson said he plans to be on the NBA scene for some time yet.
"If I’m healthy enough, I want to play until I’m 39 years old," said the 33-year-old guard, who is in the final year of a contract that will pay him $22-million in 2008-09. "I don’t want to play when I’m over 40. When the time comes and we have a game and you put the scouting report up and my name is not one of the first or second names on the scouting report and I can’t dominate games the way I used to, [then] I don’t want to play this game no more."
The Pistons think Iverson’s got at least one more top-flight season in him. The trade was the biggest news so far in the early days of the NBA season. The move instantly makes the Pistons major players next summer and in 2010, when a possible crop of premier free agents (likely including Raptors star Chris Bosh) will hit the market.
