Don Nelson’s Job Looks Secure

Though six NBA coaches have been given the heave-ho already this season, the Warriors’ Don Nelson doesn’t figure to be sent packing anytime soon, not after signing a two-year, $12 million extension in October.

With Golden State off to its worst start since Mike Montgomery’s rookie season, however, Nelson, 68, is certain to face questions about his state of mind.

"I’m just trying to compete, you know?" said Nelson, who is also due more than $5 million this season. "I’m trying to keep a good attitude and positive approach as best we can and try to play the game the right way."

"We’re not going to let (the players) get down. We’ll do our crying by ourselves. And when we’re around the team, we’re as positive as we can be. We’re trying to get better and I’m sure that we will."
