Danny Ainge: We Don’t Need to Make a Trade
He still could make a trade. Just don’t count on one.
“Nothing imminent,” Ainge said yesterday. “There’s nothing that we’re close to doing.”
That would include Marbury, if the prodigal Knicks guard continues to fail in his attempt to secure a buyout from New York management.
Should Marbury be released after March 1, the Celtics would not be able to use him in the playoffs. That effectively would end their interest.
But at the moment Ainge doesn’t sound particularly concerned about his lack of progress in the trade market, or his team’s recent dip.
“I like what we have,” he said, choosing to look for a bright side to the Spurs loss, which included a three-point Celtics lead before the bottom dropped out in the last 1:36 of the game.
