Jamario Moon to Start over Michael Beasley?
Count on newly-acquired Jamario Moon, not rookie Michael Beasley, becoming the eventual starter at small forward. That’s the job vacated by Shawn Marion in today’s trade that shipped Marion and guard Marcus Banks to Toronto in exchange for center/forward Jermaine O’Neal, Moon, and a conditional 2010 first-round draft pick.
Why would Moon start? Yakhouba Diawara hasn’t proven worthy in spot duty. James Jones still has some catching up to do. Daequan Cook, a shooting guard by trade, isn’t up to the job full-time. And Dorell Wright isn’t yet healthy.
What about Beasley, who has spent more time at center than small forward?
Now here’s a move I can get behind. With Beasley’s ostensible maturity issues, it would do him well to learn from a guy who once suffered the same shortcomings. What’s more, Moon’s superior athleticism gives the Heat another option on the break, which should serve them well in a time at which coaches tend to favour uptempo offence.
