Danny Granger Initially Planned to Attend Yale

Senior wanted Junior to have the best education. If not for his prodigious basketball ability, Granger likely would have a civil engineering degree from Yale University right now.

Instead, this morning the Indiana Pacers fourth-year forward awoke in Phoenix, preparing for his first All-Star Game.

"It’s crazy, huh?" Granger, 25, said recently. "I think about (attending Yale) sometimes. But look where I’m at and how I got here. It probably won’t really hit me until I’m standing out there in front of all those people right before they announce my name during introductions (tonight)."

Now there’s something I didn’t know.  As familiar as I am with Danny Granger’s game, I have to admit that I didn’t know the first thing about his academic background.  It’s comforting to know that, in Granger, Mayo, Roy, Oden and others, we have a generation of intelligent players set to become the league’s next generation of superstars.
