Baron Davis and Ron Artest Were Almost Traded for One Another

Before the Rockets sent Rafer Alston to Orlando at the trade deadline, there was a deal on the table that could have sent Clippers guard Baron Davis to Houston for Alston and Ron Artest, according to an NBA source. Originally, the Rockets wanted Clippers center Marcus Camby but Los Angeles declined. The source said the Rockets’ loss of Tracy McGrady to a knee injury just before the trade deadline killed the trade conversation with the Clippers. An NBA source said that if the Magic hadn’t acquired Alston, they would have attempted to trade for suspended Indiana guard Jamaal Tinsley. Tinsley is not expected to get waived by today’s deadline, which means he wouldn’t be eligible to play in the playoffs for a team that acquires him.
