SI Picks Devin Harris for MIP Award

In its annual end-of-season awards picks for the NBA, Sports Illustrated, with Chris Mannix doing the writing, picks Nets point guard Devin Harris as the Most Improved player for 2008-09. It is universally felt that Harris will win the award with the year he has had, going from a high-end role player in Dallas to THE guy in New Jersey. But the impressive stat combo put out there in the article, is this:

Harris "has delivered, with averages of 21.8 points and 7.0 assists; the only players with better numbers in both those categories are (LeBron) James, (Dwyane) Wade, and (Chris) Paul."

Those three players – along with Kobe Bryant (who has averaged 5.0 assists) – were SI’s top four in the Most Valuable Player running, with James getting their nod. That is some heady company. And it has been that kind of Most-Valuable-Player-for-the-Nets season for Harris.
