HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call: Time to be real -this is a surprise.

It seemed unlikely Tony Parker and the San Antonio Spurs would renew their relationship with an extension.

The Spurs have third-year point guard George Hill waiting in the wings; Parker has struggled with injuries; both team and player had hinted at changing directions because their days as a semi-dynasty are over.

Parker, however, is still relatively young. If healthy, he can regain his form as a top point guard and clutch performer.

Also, Parker was likely leery of becoming a free agent next July under the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. He probably gave the Spurs a discount.

Depending on the money, term, and circumstances, an extension may work out for TP and the Spurs.
